FINDING THE PERFECT FAMILY ENVIRONMENT AT BLACKWOOD PARKAutumn 2015
When Daniel and Lisa first visited Blackwood Park, they knew they’d found the perfect environment for their family.
“It’s such a nice area that Lisa’s parents, as well as my best friend and his family, followed our lead and decided to buy land here as well,” Daniel explains.
The couple and their young children Charlie and Georgia, were living at Seacombe Heights when they began scouting locations to build their family dream home.
“Our last home backed on to a nature reserve and gully as well, and when we were shown the maps of how the Fisher Precinct would look, we knew we’d found the right geographical location for us. We could see ourselves living in Blackwood Park.”
Daniel and Lisa’s home was built by Freestyle Custom Homes. Working in construction, Daniel himself played an integral role in the design and build for the home, which was inspired by the work of 1920’s Austrian-American modernist architect Richard Neutra. “It’s a U-shaped house which has been designed for open family living,” Daniel explains. “In the middle of the U there’s a big atrium with a five metre high ceiling, then a deck and a swimming pool.” The spacious home features ample living spaces for family time, play and entertaining. “We have a rumpus room, an area which we’re calling a ‘kids nook’, formal lounge room and a combined living, kitchen and casual dining area with uninterrupted views of the nature reserve and duck pond behind us with floor to ceiling glass.
“I worked in close collaboration with Freestyle Custom Homes, and put in a lot of effort to ensure that every detail of the home had maximum benefits for the environment.” The family, who have been putting the ‘finishing touches’ on their home since moving in just before Christmas, are getting acquainted with the area and are looking forward to making the most of Blackwood Park’s many reserves and walking trails.
“It’s a great area to bring up kids – very safe, with so much space for them to play outside. “We’ve always had a good feeling about Blackwood Park, and we’re looking forward to settling in and becoming part of the community.”
