Blackwood Park is privileged to be surrounded by a valuable natural local environment, and so it has been specifically designed to protect and maintain this precious resource.

In addition to some 38 hectares of reserves within the development, approximately 175 hectares of the original Craigburn Farm has been kept as open space and was recently added to the neighbouring Sturt Gorge Recreation Park.  This equates to over 60% of the original Craigburn Farm preserved as open space with the natural ecosystems being retained and regenerated.  These open spaces and reserves contain an abundance of natural woodland, mature trees and local flora and fauna.

We believe that with simple measures and care during design, new dwellings can be designed to reduce their impact on the environment and incorporate greater levels of efficiency.  For new homes at Blackwood Park an equivalent 7-star energy rating is being implemented along with a requirement to install larger rainwater tanks.  Our Design Guidelines encourage good solar orientation and other tips to increase the efficiency of new homes.  To date Blackwood Park is exceeding the EnviroDevelopment target of a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas production from energy use across the development in comparison to traditional development.

In recognition of all of the above, Blackwood Park has been accredited under the EnviroDevelopment certification system in the categories of ecosystems, waste, energy and community.  EnviroDevelopment is a scientifically-based certification system to help purchasers recognise and select more environmentally sustainable developments and lifestyles.
